Three ways to take the first step
At the beginning of 2018, so many thoughts enter my mind but it’s this one sentence that sticks in my head. “Last year’s words belong to last year’s language and next year’s words await another voice.” It was TS Elliot who penned that phrase and I’d love for you to think on that a while.
What were the words that marked 2017? For me personally it was a difficult year but at the stroke of midnight I laid it down. Looking ahead into the coming year is always exciting. I love the thrill of something new and I love the hope that it brings. With 2018, I choose to listen to another voice and another language.
To word it another way, consider a young one learning to walk. At first he wobbles a little, gives it a go and then flops back down again, but then he tries again. The views from a standing position are very different from a crawling perspective. For when we stand and when we walk, we can see things differently. It’s all about perspective. If you need to change your view, then choose that. So, this is my encouragement to you on 1January 2018. Get up again and walk. Take the first steps.
“You don’t need to see the whole staircase, just take the first step,” Dr Martin Luther King, Jr
Being practical in that way, below are just three ways you can take to ‘”take the first step'”:
1 Choose to let go of your past – make a conscious decision,
2 . Invite God into your present. He wants your heart, not what you can do but who you are.
3 Embrace a new perspective. Look up and look ahead for where your focus lies is where you will go.
